100 minute check-in

Hey, for accountability, can we try a weekly check in? Put in the date, and a sentence about your progress.

I'll be first: I was stuck at the beginning of the week because I couldn't get a good "thesis" to move forward. I wrote several different beginnings, and finally landed one that'll work--at least enough to move me forward.
I'm also requiring myself to write during writing time, and not just read ABOUT writing. That's my typical procrastination.

I was thinking this check in would be just that--a really short description of the steps you've made. Thoughts? What's the best way to proceed with this blog as a tool?

Well, I was struggling with adding the warts. Just sounded like an add on, didn't flow. But I was reading Katie Wood Ray's Wondrous Words and she was describing a seesaw effect - and I went YES! So I have a form, a structure that I think will work!
I'm facilitating the Summer Writing Institute so I am getting more than 100 minutes of writing done!
I'd like to try my writing out on someone?? Any one use goggle docs?

I did get writing done, I did! Not on the piece I brought to Santa Fe, but on a draft that had been "resting" for a week. It changed from a really stinky draft to a tolerable draft that I would have liked to revise one more time before sending it out. Alas, I was under a deadline-- so it went out Friday and will hopefully get a "revise and resubmit" rather than an editor's disdainful laugh and a trip to the recycle bin.

Maybe what we can do when someone has a draft ready for others to read is use the blog to notify everyone and then we can respond back individually through e-mail to get the actual draft. What's google docs? And I like the idea of a weekly blog progress report. I need accountability.

Sheila (since literaqueen is kind of cryptic)

I have finished a revamp of my article on NCLB. However I have read it so many times I don't know if it makes sense to anyone else. I changed my organizational structure and now I am unsure if I actually have one. I would love to have some feedback. In fact I would love to have some very honest feedback about what works and what doesn't. Let me know if you are willing to read.
Thanks,
Anna

Hi,
I like the idea of checking in-keeps us more focused. I got my 100 minutes in last week--working on the NWP article and also a related article for my ISD. Thanks again for all the support

Re. googledocs...using your google account, you can create a document on there that is edit-able by others via the web. I believe you can set it to highlight changes and comments given by others, so the first author can see the changes. it's often used also as a truly collaborative writing--a way for several authors to write a single piece, both composing and editing. Rebeca had mentioned it so maybe she knows more, but it'd be a great tool for draft review... Brenda, if you're ready and know how, could you set one up and let us all learn by doing?

I went to a grammar workshop last Tuesday, and I've been reading and reading and reading--which I count into my twenty minutes of writing time. I'm trying to create a new curriculum map for the coming school year based on student needs and state standards, and it's all sorts of not-fun, but I'm slowly plugging along. Twenty minutes each day, anyway--haha!

Just for clarification, let's do a Sunday to Sunday check-in. That will give us a start and end time to our 100 minutes. I'll put up a new spot on Sunday the 6th, to give this first round a bit more time (plus, it's a holiday!). If I ever forget, ANYONE can put up that post, just by clicking on "new post" in the upper right.

I am facilitating SI and have also written more than 20 min daily-but I need to have the check-in so that I work on work that needs to be touched! Please explain the vision of the check-in.
I love hearing your voices-keep up the responses.
Note to Anna-I'd love to read your piece, especially since I heard it when it was new.
Good holiday to all.
Carol

From now on, let's check in at the specific week's posting. I will put one up each Sunday as a reflection of the last week and a goal-setting place for the next.
